Theo Von was born to Gina Capitani and Roland Theodor Achilles von Kurnatowski (1912–1996). His mother, Gene Capitani, was raised by Clara M Capitani, an electric welder at a boiler factory, in Wyoming, Illinois.

Von’s father was originally from Bluefields, Nicaragua, and was 67 years old when Von was born. However, Von often rounds this number up to 70 for comedic purposes. His father passed away from cancer when Von was 16 years old.
